Electrical Competitor Teardown — The Study
What it takes to beat the sites that rank: deep profiles across four target markets plus the Ultimate Electrical Site spec assembled from the best of each. Live SERPs captured 2026-10-05.
electrician [city] in each market — top 2 real contractor sites per city from organic (directories/job boards/forums excluded and noted). Each site profiled at source level: every page inventoried, raw HTML inspected for schema, tel:/sms: links, chat widgets, forms, call tracking, plus offers, financing, warranties, EV/panel/generator service lines and verbatim title/meta/H1 tags. Full detail lives in the four city pages. The Five Findings That Matter
1. This is the most winnable niche we have studied — by a wide margin
Los Angeles' entire map pack holds 142 reviews total (39 + 20 + 83). Houston's pack leaders carry 361/66/57 — and Craigslist ranks #1 organically there, with job boards (Indeed, ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor) filling LA's top 10. Two of the eight profiled sites ship masked tel: links (tel:+160****0593, tel:+183****1853) — literally no click-to-call. A complete, honest site with a working phone link is a competitive weapon in this niche.
2. City×service template engines run the organic layer — mostly badly
NTX Electric: 168 city pages on one template. Bright City: county hubs → 78 city pages + 30 service pages. Your Phoenix Electrician: a 15-city sister-EMD network. Aaron's: 98 pages + 40 city pages + generator×city pages. Mash: 340 blog posts (many exact duplicates). The pattern works AND the execution is full of holes (Lorem Ipsum team pages, heat-pump FAQs on an electrician site, "our Alexandria electricians" copy-pasted into Red Oak) — scale it cleanly and you beat all of them.
3. Electrical has money services — and the offer layer is half-built
Panel upgrades, EV chargers, generators, surge protection are the revenue lines. The best steals: Mash's EV Charger Request Form (panel photo upload, charger-location photo, distance dropdown) and Aaron's offer stack ($25 off any service, $395 whole-house surge protector, free panel inspection with $200 purchase). And a live lesson in wasted value: Bright City hides "$80 service call with 20% discount" in JSON-LD where no human ever sees it.
4. License trust is the niche's differentiator — the PAA literally asks for it
People-Also-Ask boxes ask "Can I do electrical work in Arizona without a license?" and "certified vs licensed electrician". Every ranking winner shows a license number (CA #951055, C10-B #853292, TECL #30243, TX #31569, ROC #307417 in every header) and the weaker sites show none. License numbers verbatim + registry links + permit/inspection content is free differentiation — plus a public-safety angle no other niche has.
5. The paid layer shows the money — and the same sloppy habits
Dallas opens with Google Guaranteed LSA ads: Baker Brothers at 4.8★/25,000 reviews, A#1 Air at 14,000 — franchises (Mr. Electric, Mister Sparky) crowd Phoenix, Dallas and Houston with ServiceTitan/Housecall Pro booking wired in. Yet sloppiness persists at every tier: self-marked 5.0★ schema ratings behind a review gate (policy risk), stale "2017 NEC is current" claims, three conflicting hours sets, three phone numbers, and a process page copy-pasted from a translation company.
SERP Landscape — What Actually Ranks
Live Google results captured 2026-10-05 (DataForSEO, mobile) for electrician [city]. The weakest organic fields of any niche studied — in Houston the #1 organic result is a Craigslist search page.

The Ultimate Electrical Site — Best of All 8
The target for the electrical drop template (Drop #004): each ranking site's best move, with the field's shared failures excluded. In electrical, simply being complete and honest beats the entire first page.
1. Site Architecture steal: Bright City matrix + Aaron's money pages + O'Donnell blog
- County/city hub → 40–80 city pages on the pattern
/service-area/{city}-electrician(Bright City's 78-page model), each with unique local copy — not NTX's bare template, not Mash's 340 duplicate posts - 30 service pages across the money lines: panel upgrades, EV chargers, generators, surge protection, rewiring, inspections & permits, lighting, commercial service
- Generator×city and EV×city pages (Aaron's pattern) — the hurricane/ev-market money combos
- Blog engine: 30–70 posts (O'Donnell's 74-post cadence) on cost guides, panel-type education (fuse / Pushmatic / Federal Pacific), safety, permits
- Residential / Commercial split as first-class nav, like every winner
2. Homepage Anatomy — exact order steal: Aaron's offers + YPE's quiz + Bright City's trust
- Announcement bar: rating + seasonal offer (storm/generator season) + phone
- Sticky header: nav + real tap-to-call (never a masked number) + "Book Now"
- Hero: exact-match H1 + trust chips (Licensed # [number] · Insured · Warranty) + free-panel-inspection offer + quote form
- Tri-band CTA: Free Estimate | tap-to-call | Text Us
- Money-services band: Panel Upgrades · EV Chargers · Generators · Surge Protection (the four revenue lines)
- Services grid: residential / commercial tabs
- Offer band (see #3)
- Multi-platform review wall with counts
- Financing card + membership card ($19/mo style)
- Safety quiz ("How safe is your home electrical system?" — YPE's best asset) → lead capture
- Founder/master-electrician story + license numbers + project proof
- Service areas + zips mesh + map
- FAQ → FAQPage schema answering the PAA cluster (license rules, cost per hour, panel questions)
- Final CTA + true hours + mobile tap-to-call bar
3. The Offer Stack steal: Aaron's stack + YPE guarantees + Bright City's hidden offer (made visible)
| Offer | Copy to ship | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Service discount | "$25 Off Any Service" | Aaron's |
| Product offer | "$395 Whole-House Surge Protector Installed" | Aaron's |
| Inspection hook | "Free Panel Inspection with any $200+ repair" | Aaron's |
| Service call deal | "$80 Service Call + 20% Off Repair" — visible on the page, not buried in schema | Bright City (fixed) |
| Guarantees | 2-hour arrival window · flat "pricing book" quotes · vetted, background-checked electricians | Your Phoenix Electrician's 5 guarantees |
| Warranty | "Lifetime Workmanship Warranty + 100% Satisfaction Guarantee" | Aaron's |
| Financing | Named lender, instant apply | Republic (Optimus) |
| Membership | $19/mo plan: 20% off repairs, 10% off installs, priority scheduling | Republic |
4. The Trust Stack steal: CSG's header habit + NTX's named master + Mash's certifications
- State license number in every page header or footer + linked to the state registry (CSG's ROC #307417 habit) — answer the PAA before it's asked
- Named founder / master electrician (NTX's Chris Lamm, TECL #30243) + real team photos (never "Jane Doe / Lorem Ipsum")
- Manufacturer certifications: Tesla Certified Powerwall Installer (Mash), generator brands, panel brands
- Real project proof: Tesla showroom work (Bright City), national client logos (O'Donnell), before/after panels
- Written warranty terms + BBB accreditation; review wall with real counts (never self-marked schema ratings behind a review gate)
5. Conversion Mechanics steal: Mash's EV form + Aaron's attribution forms + franchise booking
- Working click-to-call — the #1 fix in this niche; verify every
tel:link resolves to a dialable number - EV Charger Request Form with panel photo upload, charger-location photo and distance dropdown (Mash's best move — qualifies the job before the visit)
- Service + location dropdown forms on money pages with coupon attribution fields (Aaron's "Redeem Offer" popup)
- Online booking (ServiceTitan/Housecall Pro link, same URL as the GBP — the franchise standard)
- Response-window promise ("2-hour arrival window") + honest after-hours policy
6. SEO & Schema steal: the matrix + PAA content — skip the contamination
- Electrician + FAQPage + AggregateRating + BreadcrumbList + GeoCoordinates + filled hours + Offer schema — with offers actually visible on the page
- City×service matrix with unique copy (Bright City/NTX scale, clean execution)
- Trust content targeting the PAA cluster: "licensed vs certified", "can you do electrical work without a license in {state}", cost-per-hour guides, permit/inspection guides
- Exact-match titles/H1s + GBP NAP parity + one consistent phone number
- No template contamination: never ship another trade's FAQs, another city's names, or stale code claims ("2017 NEC is current")
7. The Review Engine — the fastest pack win in the portfolio
8. Do NOT — the anti-patterns found in the field
- Masked
tel:links (tel:+160****0593) — no click-to-call at all (Your Phoenix Electrician, Mash) - Lorem Ipsum team pages ("Jane Doe"), staging URLs and conflicting NAP in production schema (Aaron's)
- Self-marked 5.0★ schema ratings behind a review gate (Cabling Solutions — review-gating violates Google policy)
- Template contamination: heat-pump FAQs on an electrician site (Aaron's schema), "our Alexandria electricians" copy-pasted into a Red Oak page (Republic), process pages copy-pasted from a translation company (Mash)
- Contradictory facts: 3 founding years and 3 customer counts on one site (Mash), 3 conflicting hours sets (Bright City), 3 phone numbers with href/display mismatches (Republic)
- Empty stub pages as nav items (/reviews/, /video-reviews/ that render nothing — Your Phoenix Electrician) and stale analytics stacks (4 GA properties, 3 of them dead — O'Donnell)

Next Steps
- Drop #004 (Electrical) builds from this spec — and it may be the strongest demo drop we can build: working click-to-call, visible offers, real review wall and full schema beat every site on page one.
- The safety quiz + EV request form are template features — both are differentiating lead-capture mechanics to wire into the intake/Brand Pack design.
- Recurring tier pricing signal #3 — electrical's packs flip fastest on review velocity; the Review Engine pitch writes itself here.
- Dallas LSA watch — Baker Brothers/A#1 Air prove the paid market; when the ads tier unlocks for our customers, Dallas electrical is the case study.
